Job value: £250,000
Role on project: Machinery installation in a new factory location
Plant equipment used: Forklift truck, overhead crane, 150-tonne & 450-tonne mobile cranes
Coordinating Machinery Installation on a Live, Multi-Contractor Site Within 8 Weeks
Essity required the installation of new, upgraded recycling equipment at its new Unifibres facility in Prudhoe, as part of a relocation away from old infrastructure that had deteriorated over time. The new facility would play a key role in strengthening recycling capacity and supporting long-term operational efficiency.
The project scope involved the installation of complex, industrial-scale machinery from multiple leading OEMs, including pulping and screening systems, conveyors, process tanks, pumps, and overhead travelling cranes.
Delivery was constrained by a tight eight-week installation window, the need to coordinate closely with multiple contractors on a live site, and the safe handling and controlled positioning of heavy, high-value equipment.
This combination of technical complexity, logistical pressure, and strict safety requirements meant the project demanded a highly experienced and dependable installation partner.
A Structured, Safety-First Approach to Factory Relocation
We were selected based on our proven ability to deliver complex mechanical and electrical installations safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Drawing on the expertise of our skilled rigging, mechanical, and electrical teams, we developed and executed a structured installation programme that ensured all works were completed on time and without compromise to safety or quality.
Key elements of the solution included:
- Detailed planning and coordination. A clearly defined programme of works, supported by regular site meetings, ensured alignment with Essity and other contractors throughout the project.
- Expert heavy lifting and installation. We safely managed the handling and positioning of large-scale equipment, including an 8,800kg shredder, using 150-tonne and 450-tonne mobile cranes alongside specialist rigging techniques.
- Phased installation approach. Equipment was installed in stages to minimise disruption and maintain site efficiency whilst multiple contractors were on-site.
- Close collaboration with OEMs. We worked alongside technical supervisors to ensure all installations met manufacturer specifications.
- Strict safety and compliance management: We ensured that all installations met recognised industrial safety standards and adhered to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
The success of the project was driven by the skill, experience, and commitment of the AIS VIG Industrial team, whose ability to problem-solve and execute under pressure ensured a successful delivery.
As a result, the installation was completed on time and within budget, enhancing the facility’s processing capability while maintaining high safety standards throughout.
This project demonstrates our capability as a safe, reliable, and logical partner for clients operating in demanding industrial environments.
